Shih Tzu
This is Mia, our new Mommy. She is AKC registered, with plenty of championships in her linage. She has the beautiful red hair that is so sought after.
Shih-tzus are small sturdy dogs that make wonderful pets. They come in a variety of colors.
These dogs have long silky hair and are known for being hypoallergenic.
Use the 3 different types of nose colors of a shih-tzu to determine color.
*** A shih-tzu with a BLACK nose is called whatever the color of the dog's coat.
***A shih-tzu with a LIVER/CHOCOLATE nose is a Rare Liver Shih-Tzu
***A shih-tzu with a BLUE nose, it is a Rare Blue Shih-Tzu
1.Black Nose: this is the most common shih-tzu, these are everywhere. If the shih-tzu has a black nose black eye rims, lips, and pads, then the color of the coat determines what color the dogs is.
**Exoit and Rares** For the next 2, the color that the dog is considered, is determined by the color of nose, not the coat.
2. Liver is one exotic color: These dogs are harder to find. If the shih-tzu has brown/chocolate (liver) nose, eye rims, lips, pads, then it is a Liver shih-tzu. No matter what the color of the coat, the shih-tzu is still a liver. But, it cannot have any black anywhere.
3.Blue is the other exotic Color: These dogs are harder to find. Many people have not seen a blue. Sometimes blue can be hard to determine. Some noses are obvious, and are light purplish blue or light grey, but some are a real dark gunmetal grey and can be mistaken for black. Most blue shih-tzu's have grey eye rims, grey lips and foot pads. A blue shih-tzu can have any color of coat. Just because the coat on a dog looks blue does NOT make it a blue shih-tzu. Go by the Nose. The colors may be easier to see in bright light outdoors. If unsure, compare a blue nose to a black nose to see the difference.
Both the Color “Liver” and “Blue” are dilute genes. You MUST have a Blue or Liver Shih-Tzu, or a carrier (parents, grandparents), to produce these colors.
